Course Details
Over four evening sessions, Introduction to Multi Platform Content Creation for Journalists will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities that multiplatform working offers and present strategies and skills to navigate and survive as a freelance content creator in the new media landscape.
Introduction to Multi Platform Content Creation for Journalists is aimed at print and broadcast journalists working in traditional media who need to develop their professional skills in the new arena of multi platform content creation.
It aims to equip broadcast and print journalists with the awareness and skills necessary to work in a converged, multi-platform environment where broadcast, online, print and mobile content channels are produced simultaneously, utilising text, audio, video, graphic and interactive content tools.
The 4 evening sessions will run from 6-9pm and cover the following:

Week 2: Monday 4 October 2010 6-9pm: Introduction to Social Media
Week 3: Monday 11 October 2010 6-9pm: Writing for Multiplatform

Week 3: Monday 11 October 2010 6-9pm: Writing for Multiplatform
Week 4: :Monday 18 October 2010 6-9pm: Introduction to IP rights and monetisation of content

All sessions will take place at the converged multimedia journalism studios at Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy, the home of the BA & MA Journalism BJTC (Broadcasting Journalism Training Council) accredited courses. www.edinburghnapierjournalism.com . Participants will have access to a Virtual Learning Environment where additional course materials, discussion boards and sample content will be hosted.

Murray has been an online journalist since 1998, and has since taught many journalists and media professionals about the development of the internet and the changing media landscape. His experience covers newspapers (Edinburgh Evening News, Scotsman, The Sun, Daily Mail), radio (Northsound, Scot FM, Forth FM and BBC Radio Scotland), television (Special Broadcasting Service in Sydney and Australian Associated Press), but it is the internet that is his first love. He worked on the launch of the MSN network in Australia in 1998 and then joined BBC News Online in 1999, where he helped launch the Scottish news site. He then spent more time in Australia in charge of news digital media at SBS and Australian Associated Press. Murray has also delivered training in social media to PR, marketing and communication professionals at Channel 4 TV, HSBC and Barclaycard.
