Jan 24 - CHANGE OF START DATE - Writers' Factory Feature Film Course -
NB: course start date is now 24th of January
Venue: Screen Academy Scotland, 2A Merchiston Ave, Edinburgh, EH10 4NU |
|
The course takes place over 22 weeks (plus 2 additional 3-week writing breaks), incorporating a mixture of theory and practice. Students are introduced to recent developments in the craft of feature film screenwriting; will participate in project-based story workshops with course peers; and develop and write a first draft of a low budget feature film. Writers with extant screenwriting skills have an opportunity to assimilate contemporary thinking on the craft, and broaden their understanding of current industry requirements.
The (project-based) workload is relatively heavy, with submission of work required for workshop-based discussion throughout - Premise, Outline, revised Outline, Treatment, revised Treatment, First Act screenplay and Rough Draft Screenplay.
Tutor
Writers' Factory lecturer, Nigel R. Smith, is a multi-award winning Edinburgh-based film and television producer, screenwriter, and experienced lecturer. Trained at the Media Business School in Spain and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the US, Nigel’s many and varied credits include children's space adventure sitcom Intergalactic Kitchen and Tartan Shorts, Cry for Bobo, for the BBC.
Who’s it for?
This is not a course for beginners, or for the faint-hearted. Applicants should have a working understanding of the screenwriting craft, demonstrating either:
- completed several short film or television drama screenplays of varying lengths (these do not need to have been produced) or
- completed a recognised screenwriting programme - a screenwriting Masters or PG Cert programme, or the Writers’ Factory Introduction to Screenwriting.
The Feature Film Course is an ideal environment for writers who value a supportive structure within which they can progress their work to a timescale.
