Pendulum Drift
After completing a screenwriting course at Abertay University, Dundee, Shehzad Afzal received his MA in Screen Project Development from Edinburgh Skillset Screen & Media Academy graduating with honours in 2009. As part of his portfolio of development projects, Shehzad produced Down the Rabbit Hole, the final film project of MFA Advanced Film Practice graduate Eva Pervolovici.

Down the Rabbit Hole has screened worldwide in France (Strasbourg International Film Festival) and the Czech Republic (Fresh Film Festival, Karlovy Vary) in August 2009, following screenings in Mexico (Festival Internacional de Cine Expresión en Corto in July; Austria (EVA Festival of Nations, Ebensee) and at the Trailblazers section at Edinburgh International Film Festival in June 2009; It was nominated for best short film at the Milano International Film Festival in Italy last May and was also been selected to be part of the in-competition short film series titled, No Joke – Shorts, at the 5th Singapore Short Film Festival 2009, and also at the Short Film Corner in Cannes 2008.
Down The Rabbit Hole also screened at the East End Film Festival in London (April), the International Film Festival in Milan (May) and the Naoussa International film festival (May). The film will also be screening at the International Short Film Festival in Detmold (Germany) and will be shown as part of the European Student programme on 28th April at Kinofilm Manchester (European Student Shorts).

Shehzad also collaborated with Mark Sloss, MA Film Screen Academy Wales, on short film Vanille which screened as part of the UK French Film Festival in November and December 2009, and also screened at the Short Film Corner in Cannes 2009.

In 2009, Shehzad was commissioned by South West Screen Regional Screen Agency in England to work as a Script Consultant on their Digital Shorts Programme.

He is currently developing the fiction feature film, Fracture, in collaboration with Russell Davidson, as part of ENGAGE, the MEDIA-funded training initiative for writers, directors and producers.

Skillset and EIFF 2009 Trailblazer, Shehzad Afzal, is also currently at post-production stage of his debut fiction feature film as writer/director/producer on Pendulum Drift, developed and privately financed by Filmedup Ltd, expected for festival release in 2011. Shehzad’s other project in development at Filmedup Ltd is Shooting Ducks, expected to go into production late 2011. Shehzad has also recently been commissioned to work as a director on another independent fiction project set in Scotland.
