Latest News about Ruth Paxton:

In 2007, Ruth graduated with a Post-Graduate diploma in Film at Screen Academy Scotland having gained her honours degree at Edinburgh College of Art. For years she has focused on writing, directing, producing and designing for an eclectic mix of projects; encompassing fiction, non-fiction, experimental film and music video. Ruth’s films are bold and powerful and she has a unique way of visualising, stylising and capturing the intimacy and complexity of people and their stories.
Primarily a writer / director, Ruth has a strong aesthetic in relation to culture, art and fashion and has a refined stylistic sensibility. She has worked as a stylist and production designer on a number of projects, including Joern Utkilen’s recent Cinema Extreme short, LITTLE RED HOODIE.

To date Ruth’s most successful film has been SHE WANTED TO BE BURNT, which has been exhibited and nominated in competition in festivals across the UK and Europe, including screenings in Australia, India and China.

During 2009, Ruth enjoyed two development periods on short film projects, for which she was a successful applicant as writer / director. These were DigiCult, the Scottish Digital shorts initiative and Cinema Extreme, a national commissioning body. Following a fruitful development process, Ruth was commissioned by DigiCult with her short film PARIS / SEXY, which is now in post-production.

Collaborative relationships with family, friends and fellow artists are essential to Ruth’s method and she is keen to expand these working relationships to create fresh, new work. She is focussed on her career in writing and directing drama. She continues to develop various projects with her producer Rosie Crerar and will soon begin work on a feature production script. Ruth also retains a big commitment to music and music video culture and is pursuing opportunities to direct and design for promos.
