Former PG Certificate in Screenwriting student Kirstie Swain was one of the short-listees of the recent BBC Scotland Writes competition. She attended a Masterclasses and Networking event at BBC Scotland drama department in Glasgow. She was also shortlisted for the BBC Scotland playwriting scheme, Ignite, in conjunction with Playwright Studio Scotland. Last year, she was selectedd to take part in the BBC Scotland Radio Lab, and a pilot sitcom script that she wrote while on the course was optioned by Freeform Productions.
Kirstie was also chosen for the 2012 BBC Writers Academy course. Now in its seventh year, the BBC Writers Academy is a major initiative aimed at discovering and training the next generation of writers for BBC One’s flagship shows: EastEnders, Casualty, Holby City, and Doctors.
Kirstie is also currently co-writing a play for the National Youth Theatre called Our Days of Rage which is on at the Old Vic Tunnels later this month until the 17 September.
