Giraffes and Laughs and Feelings and Things
An Ode To Modern Democracy And The Hairdresser
I’d Rather Have A Memory Than A Dream
Since graduating in 2006 with an MA in Screen Project Development Gemma Mitchell relocated to London and worked as the Programme Manager at Broadview, a London-based corporate communications company focusing on web television.
While pursuing work as a script developer  and film festival programmer Gemma also established The Room production company with writer/director Matt Strachan ( MA Screenwriting). Together they have produced several short films which have achieved success on the international film festival circuit.

After screening internationally, their first film Giraffes and Laughs and Feelings and Things was picked up for broadcast by Propeller Television and An Ode To Modern Democracy And The Hairdresser (which was written by Daniel Hesford MA Screenwriting graduate) played at Raindance 2009 (it is is now available on the BBC film network).  An Ode To Modern Democracy And The Hairdresser has also played at Foyle Film Festival, Bradford International Film Festival where it was in competition for the Shine Short Film Award, Edmonton International Film Festival and Santa Cruz Film Festival.

Their most recent short film ‘I’d Rather Have A Memory Than A Dream’ (2009) exploring the blurred line between realities imagined and remembered, premiered at the London Short Film Festival and was screened in Competition at GLIMMER 2010.

In addition Gemma started her own festival this year YARN: celebrating story and storytelling - the debut festival was in February and played to sell-out audiences. She also produced the London Independent Film Festival this year (2010)

In partnership with writer Gabriella Apicella The Waiting Room have just kicked off a brand new shorts festival called Underwire, dedicated to showcasing the raw cinematic talents of women with programmes featuring female's Directing, Producing, Editing, Writing and Cinematography, as well as programmes celebrating representations of women on screen. The festival will take place in late November 2010 in London.

They are also adapting a short story into a short film script from a recently published anthology by a new East End writer, which we've recently optioned the rights to, which will go into production in early 2011.
