EIFF 2018: ECA/SAS has a bumper year!

2018 is a bumper year for Edinburgh College of Art/Screen Academy Scotland graduate's documentaries at Edinburgh International Film Festival. An unprecedented total of 11 films directed by current or past students or staff will be screening with many more films featuring work by Edinburgh College of Art/Screen Academy Scotland students and graduates in different capacities. 

There are 9 documentaries directed by students or graduates from the Postgraduate documentary programme (MA/MFA Film Directing) including  the award winning  feature documentary  Piripkura directed by MFA graduate Mariana Oliva (which has already won the Amsterdam Human Rights Award at IDFA and Best Documentary at Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival ) which  is up for competition as best feature documentary. Other short films include Soran Qurbani’s Homage to Kobane, about Kurdish survivors’ memories and determination amongst the rubble of Kobane.

For fiction, Alia Ghafar,  BA Film and TV graduate from last year is screening the award winning Salt and Sauce which has already scooped up Best Film at Glasgow Short Film Festival and at the Royal Television Society Student awards for best sound and editing. It  has been screened at the London Film Festival amongst other top festivals. Salt and Sauce represents the coming together of talent from many different collaborators including graduate Beth Woodruff as cinematographer, Mario Cruzado as editor and many other students from the Undergraduate Film and TV department as crew including costume graduate Lauren Peters and Emma-Jo Carroll (current costume student).

Time Trial, directed by Finlay Pretsell from Scottish Documentary Institute, edited by Kieran Gosney (BA Film & TV graduate) and shot by Martin Radich (MFA Film Directing graduate) and Julian Schwanitz (MFA Film Directing graduate).
