Jan 2012 - Graduate short film 'Downing' continues festival momemtum
Short Film Downing by Screen Academy Graduates Russell Webber and Peter Forbes continues festival momentum.
Downing was filmed in Edinburgh towards the end of 2010 as a collaborative project between Screen Academy graduates Russell Webber (MA Screen Project Development) and Peter Forbes (MA Screenwriting). The short, a vibrant and subversive take on the teen party scene, also featured an array of past and present Screen Academy alumni fulfilling a number of production roles.
Downing completed post-production this Summer and shortly thereafter began its festival run when it was selected for the Rhode Island International Film Festival, one of only 65 qualifying festivals for the Short Films category of the Academy Awards. Both Russell and Peter made the Stateside trip to Providence to represent the film and partake in a series of successful networking events.
In October, Downing screened at the prestigious Iris Festival and was shortlisted for the 2011 International Iris Prize, an award which carries a £25,000 cheque. An interview with Ben Peters, the director, in which he details his experiences on Downing can be found here.
This coming January will see Downing debut in London as part of the capital's annual Short Film Festival where it will screen at the BFI Southbank, and Hackney and Greenwich Picturehouses.
Looking forward, Downing was recently acquired for UK DVD distribution and will be available on the latest edition of a renowned short film compilation series in Spring 2012. Further details of the release will be announced in the New Year.
In the meantime, you can follow all the latest news on the official Downing facebook page.
